Dunk Height Calculator – Free & Accurate Vertical Jump Predictor
A dunk is simple in theory: your hand must reach above the rim with enough clearance to control the ball. In practice, hitting that number takes accurate measurement and consistent training.
What the Calculator Uses
- Standing reach — the highest point you can touch flat-footed
- Rim height — standard 10 ft (305 cm), adjustable for lower hoops
- Clearance — extra height needed to actually control the ball, not just graze the rim
Worked Example
A 5'10″ player with a 7'6″ (229 cm) standing reach needs roughly a 36-inch (91 cm) vertical jump for a one-hand dunk on a 10-foot rim, factoring in standard clearance.
Things That Change the Number
- Rim height: Not every court is exactly 10 feet — measure yours if possible.
- Running vs. standing jump: A running approach typically adds several inches of usable height.
- Dunk style: One-hand finishes need less clearance than two-hand or windmill dunks.
